《無愛繁殖》談得是現今人類社會感知到生命衰老的沉重,無力去愛的狀態。在前年看過《一座島嶼的可能性》後,我已經感受到某種程度的「韋樂貝克式衝擊」;在讀了《無愛繁殖》後,兩本書之間因此有了清楚的連結:人類社會走向悲哀後,產生一種「形而上」的改變,因此發展出無愛無恨的複製人,現今的我們也將隨著複製人的出現而毀滅,人類的新社會將達到某種程度上的平靜與愉悅,有點類似佛教的「西方極樂世界」。

  在人類社會達到「無愛繁殖」之後,由複製人組成的社會竟開始思考其生命的意義,並試著了解他們的第一代(也就是現代的我們)的愛的過程,新一代的複製人藉此開始探索他們意象出的、富有可能性的「一座島嶼」。那座島嶼也許是愛、是恨,是人類社會衰頹的根源,卻也可能是現代人最難以忍受的原始情感之面貌。

  對我來說,一本好書的定義是:在蓋上書頁後能感受到某種揪心,或是帶來內心迴盪的意念,甚至可以察覺出看這本書之前的我,與其之後的我的差異。米榭˙韋勒貝克著實在我心中,劃下一筆痕跡。
